When you get married, you combine two people from two different money worlds and backgrounds into one life. When my wife and I got married, we were a bit jarred by the differences in our views of eating out.

Now, you have to realize that I come from a family where when we took a roadtrip, one of the kids was assigned to make 20 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and another to fill up a jug of water. (Any one of my siblings can confirm this.) Frugality ran deep in our veins.

My sidegig, and the unexpected benefits of driving for Lyft and Uber

I drove for Lyft and Uber, I was nervous at first but then it got strangely addicting. It’s kind of cool to watch your earnings go up after every drop-off. The top question people ask is was it worth it? I averaged $19.24 an hour. After paying for gas that was about $14-16 an hour. The top complaint I hear is “What about the wear and tear on your car?” For me, I wanted some extra money before starting grad school, and trading in a bit of car value for some cash was a no-brainer.
